Scenography. Sometimes comparisons are ….. necessary

Urok   Miniatures,

Hello again everyone, a little time has passed since my last post but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy.  I have been preparing some juicey posts for you all and today I bring you this. I hope you like it.

I believe that everyone knows that HeroQuest 25th Anniversary is being produced in homage to the game that came out 25 years ago. At that time, most of the scenographic elements that were used were made of paper, well made yes, very bright and colourful but paper all the same. In this new version of the game those elements will be made of resin. Some of which are remastered versions of those elements we had back in the day, while others are totally new.

Today we are going to take a look at the remastered versions compared to their original counterparts. Lets see how this goes shall we.

WEAPON RACK

One thing we will notice throughout this article is that many pieces are actually smaller than their older counterparts. This really means they are actually to scale with the other game pieces. There is not a lot of commentary needed, both are very cool, the remastered model has more detail but, this is also something we will see that is quite common in all the pieces we are going to see.

ALTAR

In this case we find a quite different concept, while the Classic piece was much more “ecclesiastic” with candles, and a mage’s tome on top, the newer model is clearly a sacrificial altar, deviously prepared to collect the blood of the poor hapless person who fell into the claws of the inhabitants of these dungeons. There is also no shortage of candles ,which we can see are semi-melted, on one side and on the other, the spell book full of incantations which the enemy mages will use against anyone who finds themselves in the inner-workings of their temple without an invitation.

ALCHEMIST TABLE

IMG_20160212_113007

Here we have a very detailed piece, one could almost say its overboard, overloaded, a complete mess. As we can see the classic piece is a bit empty. I have called it the Alchemist table although in the classic version is is clearly a desk, with its human skull and rat scurrying around it.

TABLES

In this case we have two different types of tables. The table top is reversible. In the box there will be two tables and two different pairs of legs so we can put together the table that best works for us in a given situation.

THE RACK

This piece has a very similar design, taking away the fact that it is no longer horizontal but inclined. The newer version offers those that like to get their fingers dirty more possible modifications.

THE KNIGHTS TOMB

IMG_20160212_113314

The knights tomb really is an exquisite piece, very much like the classic model but with just a touch of something else. The thing is that the top tablet is reversible and has two different forms, one with the knight or one with removable engraving.

Here you can see the other side of the tablet with it’s engraving separate. The engraving might actually be part of some mission.

FIREPLACE

IMG_20160212_113420

The fireplace is one of the places that we find the greatest size difference between classic and new model pieces. As I said before this is due to our attempt to show a real scaling between set pieces and the heroes themselves.

Don’t tell me that this size isn’t more realistic than that beast is a fireplace we had before.

CHESTS

IMG_20160212_113750

And lastly we are going to look at the chests. As you can see we have 3 different chest designs in the new game to the singular design from the 90’s game. We will find the tradicional wooden chest, one that is a bit more on the “noble” side and another made of metal full of protective bands made from reworked swords.

For now that is all folks. In my next posts I will show you some of the new pieces that we will find in the game.

INFORMATIVE NOTE: I would like all of the backers to hear some new first hand information that I got this afternoon. It seems that there are some backers who have misunderstood my last post about the changes. I talked about the metal pieces that some of the miniatures will have (The 8 Heroes). I also said that this was happening to make the product better. There are some who did not like the idea that both metal and resin versions would be for sale online for anyone who wanted them. come on , the game will come complete with some pieces in metal. Some have understood that the game was going to come without these pieces and that they would be sold separately, this is totally false. In fact, and for this reason this note, in the final box set of this game these pieces will come both in metal and resin, so you can put your pieces together as you si fit. I hope that puts an end to the “metal pieces fiasco”
